About

Al-Balad Theater is a multi-purpose artistic and community space. We were established in 2005 and remain located near the heart of Downtown Amman. We have proudly renovated both of our locations from original mid-20th century cinemas into creative, collaborative spaces of the 21st century.

Al-Balad Theater's name has gained recognition in the Arab and international art scene. Our engagement on the regional and international levels has brought cultural and artistic life back to a previously underserved area of the city. Through our community-based performances and Baladk mural projects, we have worked to make Amman a convivial city for people of all ages, reclaiming the City Center and Downtown with its markets, cultural life and people.

Since 2005 Al-Balad Theater has provided a much needed independent, not-for-profit venue for artists to showcase their cultural projects. We specialise in performing arts, and also provide rehearsal spaces and a space to display visual artworks.

Al-Balad strives to provide and enhance opportunities for artists in the region, particularly young and aspiring artists, to meet, learn, exchange, create and perform with one another and with more experienced professionals. We also contribute to strengthening Jordan's cultural life by encouraging dynamic, productive dialogue among artists, and conversations between artists and their audiences.

Al-Balad Theater is a not-for-profit company registered in Jordan to organise cultural activities and programmes related to the performing and visual arts. Alongside our full-time staff, we are governed by a board of directors.
