Key Principles

Our long-standing mission is to reinforce vital relationships between art, culture and community at the local, regional and international levels.

Al-Balad's long-standing mission, which has underpinned our work since 2005, is to reinforce vital relationships between art, culture and community at the local, regional and international levels. We strive to achieve that mission through the following guiding principles.

Art is for all people. We believe deeply that art belongs to everyone regardless of background, social or financial status, place of residence or gender. We strongly promote the right to art and culture for all, and we strive to deliver our projects to the widest range of audiences possible while including their voices and opinions in the creative process.

Access is practical, not rhetorical. We attempt to fulfil this commitment by offering most of our events for free or at low cost, and by travelling with our events into communities across Jordan to reach the widest audience possible. We also view art as a creative commons: something to be integrated into daily life and habits and made available to everyone, not only to an elite artistic community. This is best exemplified by Baladk and by our ability to host a wide range of events for diverse interests in many different locales.

Spaces should be usable by everyone. Al-Balad Theater works to ensure that its spaces and activities are accessible to people with disabilities.
